We cannot say we love the land and then take steps to destroy it for use by future generations.†-John Paul II The above quoted adage gives a concise account of how we are ravaging our resources implying that our survival is under threat from the augmented loss of biodiversity, pollution and climate change. To promote deeper understanding of environmental issues and problem solving, environmental education has been made mandatory and integral component of formal education in one form or the other for more than a decade. The department of environmental science is very passionate about environmental education and considers empowering students as extremely important; we believe educating them is a great privilege that brings with it a huge sense of responsibility. Our students form an amalgam coming from a variety of academic streams like arts, commerce and science that requires an intellectual ecosystem which our department provides to enables them to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to promote environmental stewardship. Although the pandemic has gripped everyone with fear and uncertainty. Surely, there is not a family that has not suffered the effects of the huge magnitude of the onslaught of COVID-19 and its innumerable variants. However, at these uncertain times we remain steadfast is our commitment to serve our students by imparting quality environmental education through whatever means possible. The Department is operating virtual labs and engaging more and more students in interaction viz-a-viz google meet and wise app for regular classwork. Also in-person interactive classwork is carried out in staggered manner in lieu with the government notification issued from time to time. The mission of our department is to inculcate responsibility towards improving environment and to instil simple living, quality life and eco-centric approach among our student brigade.
